On this episode I sat with friend Matt Holder. Matt and I first met when I started real estate back in 2015. He was my first business coach when I started at Keller Williams Elite.

Matt is from SW OKC, he grew up in Moore, graduated from south Moore High School. He worked in real estate his junior year at a new construction development owned by his best friends family. Matt didn’t want to be in real estate he wanted to be a doctor. Matt’s whole family had ties to real estate, his mom sold homes, his dad sold building materials and his grandfather built homes. So it was written on the wall that real estate was in his future. But Matt wanted to be a doctor,

Matt’s graduation year was the year of the May tornado in 2013; he shared his experience of that day. In 2012 while at lunch with his grandparents they pitched him the idea of getting his real estate license. Matt took night school to get his real estate license. He worked at the model home during the day and school during the night. At this point in Matt’s life he turned to real estate

Matt’s entire senior year he studied real estate got his license once he turned 18 and started at KW in Moore. Matt was asked to teach technology to the agents and learned really quickly that he really liked helping people learn new things that directly impacts their income and business.

Matt dove into leadership and learning as much as he could about leadership. Researching what CEO’s did to progress. He learned that they read a lot, so starting then Matt became a student of leadership, reading any leadership, psychology books he could. In 2014 at the age of 19 KW approached Matt to coach new agents coming into the real estate business. This is how Matt and myself met, he was my coach my first year in real estate.

Matt moved up to a new office in OKC called KW Elite; he went back into selling real estate because there was no coaching position available. However, the person in the current position resigned and Matt stepped in to teach a class as a test period and the was brought on to teach new realtors. Built a successful program with the amazing team at that office. A lot of my friends came from that time at KW and are still there.

Matt took a break at the end 2016, with some major life events coupled with a lot of stress happening teaching 70+ realtors on a weekly basis. Matt went to work selling cars for Joe Cooper as a way to get a way from real estate to reset.

In April 2017 Matt is approached by Wyatt Poindexter, Wyatt was one of Oklahoma’s top luxury real estate agents at this time. He approached Matt with an idea to build a mega team. Matt jumped at the opportunity to build a team with Wyatt. Over the next three years they developed a plan and took their new team to the top of Oklahoma real estate.

Matt has now taken a step back from Wyatt’s team to go into businesses on his own. Matt is going back to his love of coaching, training and leading. So he is starting up his own small business coaching service. He wants to be a leader of leaders not just real estate but all businesses in the metro area.

Every time I sit with Matt I learn something and this was no different. Enjoy the gems in this episode, if you’re a small business owner and need guidance. Matt is your man. Follow him here @mattholderr
